If you had asked me this question years ago, I would have laughed and said, “Of course not. They don’t deserve to get paid.”
But then I read a few books and articles, and it turns out that… Yeah, college athletes should absolutely be paid. Regardless of whether they’re at a university on scholarship, college athletes put their bodies through extremely rigorous and very dangerous trauma. Only a very small percentage of them ever go on to play pro, meaning most of them have had their bodies ruined and are typically left with little to no skills that are useful outside of sports, because they’re encouraged to study sports management and similar majors so that their professors understand the commitment they have to make to their team.
Consider also that universities are making millions off of these athletes, and those athletes never see a dime of that money. You wanna talk about exploitation of young bodies in the university system in America, start with college athletes.
